Week 3 Homework Due: 26th October

Hello Again,

We are getting back into the swing of the term, It is amazing that 2 and a half weeks have already gone.

This week for Homework, students are asked to label a map of Australia. They should label the states and cities.
Spelling words will be tested on Friday. (Please note that some students have changed groups)

In mathematics we are looking at Parallel  and Perpendicular lines. We also are introducing angles- looking at larger and smaller angles and right angles. If you could see any at home or on the way to school it would be great to take advantage of that learning opportunity.

We are looking forward to our excursion to Melbourne next week, where we will be sure to learn about the great city we live in. We would love a Parent/ Grandparent to come in to our class and talk about Melbourne as they remember it. Please send a note with your children if you are interested.

In class we often use the iPads. It would be wonderful if you have a spare set of headphones at home that  could be brought to class, as this would create less interruptions to other students.

Parent Helpers - Living Books

Dear Parents/Carers of students in Grade 3,

It is hard to believe we are now into Term 4. Where has the year gone?

The children have worked extremely well throughout the year and should be congratulated on their efforts and achievements. Term 4 is shaping up to be an exciting term full of outstanding educational experiences and learning opportunities.

Our Investigations inquiries will continue to focus on the study of Melbourne. The children will be exploring the history of Melbourne, significant people who have contributed to its development, growth and culture and the personal experiences that the children themselves and members of their families have had in Melbourne.

To support this unit, it would be appreciated if all children could bring any photos they have of themselves and their families taken in and around Melbourne. These could include, for example, photos taken at the Royal Melbourne Show, sporting venues, concerts, The Zoo, gardens, restaurants, galleries and museums and shopping precincts. For safekeeping, we will photocopy and return the children’s photos as quickly as possible.

Aware that not everyone has always lived in our wonderful city of Melbourne or its suburbs, we would welcome any family members (parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles etc.) who would be willing to come into our grade and talk about their first experiences of Melbourne. We are sure that many people will have memories and stories to share that will enhance the children’s understanding of Melbourne as a culturally diverse and vibrant city. At this stage we have set aside Week 5 (5th – 9th November) for these ‘Living Stories’ presentations and we would be thrilled to hear from anyone who would be willing to contribute. You can either contact us directly by popping into the classroom before or after school, writing a note in your child’s diary, or via the school’s telephone number - 8787 – 5390

We look forward to working with your wonderful children in Term 4 and thank you for your ongoing support.

Kind regards,

Grade 3 teachers

Term 4

Welcome back to Term 4!

I hope everyone had a wonderful relaxing holiday and is ready for the term ahead. I visited Korea over the break and was very impressed with the culture, foods, and customs and had a wonderful experience. It was fun trying to communicate with someone that does not speak the same language as me. Understanding the little things that change when you visit a country was also interesting, such as standing on the left of a path, looking at cars drive on the other side of the road, and eating with chop sticks.

It is great to be back and I am looking forward to a great term. This term we are learning about our city “Melbourne” which links into our city camp and our excursion to IMAX and the Melbourne Museum. We are looking for a parent helper from each classroom. A note has been handed out about this. (Parent helpers must have a current working with Children’s check.)

Homework will be spelling words and times tables revision. With occasional worksheets handed out. Please encourage students to access Studyladder and Mathletics as often as possible as this will assist their classroom learning.

This week’s spelling words are linked to our topic and would be valuable to learn for the classroom.

In mathematics for week 1 and 2 we will be focusing on measuring volume and capacity. Students have been encouraged to look around the house for items that are labelled with millilitres (mL) and Litres (L).

As always if there are any questions please do not hesitate.
