Week 8 Update/ Homework
Hello All,
Literacy
This week in literacy we are looking at Compound words (two
words that are joined together to make a new word) for example chop + stick =
chopstick. As we are learning these, all spelling words this week are compound
words. See below.
Students in 3C are working at finding errors in pieces of
work, which is making students take a bit of care when reading through their own
work.
All Accelerated Readers and Library books need to be
returned by Friday 30th November
Numeracy
This week in Mathematics we are learning to read timetables.
This means we are looking at our class timetable, train timetables and even the
television guide. Being able to read how long a program goes for, or when a
particular show on is a great skill that we are learning.
Investigations
Students are beginning to build models, write scripts and
make posters about the building or place in Melbourne that they have chosen to
research. Students are encouraged to bring in cardboard boxes that they might
use to create their model.
Homework: Here is a number of buildings that are in
Melbourne City, please find out the name of the building. You may use the
internet, look in a book, asking a parent or relative to help you find out the
name of the building. Students who return this with labelled pictures by Monday
3rd of December will receive a prize.
Swimming carnival
Swimming carnival is on the 12th of December,
students who have paid the levy need to return their form with their parent’s
signature and emergency phone number. Non-Levy payers need to pay $10 with
their parent’s signature and emergency contact. So far more than half the class
has returned this notice so it is looking to be a fantastic day. Please be sure
to return this by the 30th of November.
Feel free to ask any questions you have about this. Students
who do not attend have an alternate program held at school.
Christmas Carols
For our school Christmas Carols, Grade 3’s have been asked
to learn the song “Rockin’ around the Christmas Tree”. These will be held on
Thursday 13th December. More details to follow shortly.
Over 1000 views
I am pleased to
announce that this blog has received over 1000 views, thank you for your
wonderful support.

Homework Due : 26th November
Hello Everyone,

·
Flinders Street
·
Richmond Football Club
·
Queen Victoria Market
·
Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG)
·
Parliament Station
·
Bourke Street Christmas Myer Windows
·
Australia 108
·
The Melbourne Zoo
·
Docklands
·
Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI)
·
Queen’s Bridge
·
Southern Cross Station
·

·

·
The Shrine of Remembrance
·
The Australian Open (Tennis)
If you have at home any books or brochures about these
topics please bring them in to class to share.
Mathematics Update:
In Maths we are learning about time. We are learning to read
the time using words like ‘quarter past’ ‘half past’ and ‘quarter to’. We are
remembering to count in fives to help us tell the time on an analogue clock.
Where possible can you read the time to your parents?
What is happening in Literacy?
In literacy we are looking at prefixes and suffixes.
A prefix comes at the beginning of a word- such as
un/dis/non/im
A suffix is attached to the end of the word- such as
ed/ing/es/ly/ment/tion/er
These change the meaning of words.
Can you make a list of these as homework. (This can be
completed on the computer if you choose)
Just a reminder that we have many notices due back these
include:
·
Swimming Carnival (Due: 30th Of
November)
·
Book Lists (handed out 19/11/12) Due:7th
December
·
2013 School Diary- compulsory for Grade 4’s
(Due: 7th December)
·
2013 School Levy (Due: 7th December)
·
Attendance for 2013 at Lynbrook Primary School

Recount of our Excursion by one of our students:
Grade 3 IMAX/Museum Excursion
When I arrived at Lynbrook station I saw everyone lined up behind their teachers. Went to my teacher to get my name ticked off and at exactly 8.48 the train arrived. We all got on but it took ages and I mean ages to get to Parliament station but we finally got there. We walked to the IMAX Theatre we watched this movie called Australia. It was a good movie. We learned lots of things we didn’t know. After that we went to the Melbourne Museum. It was really fun there. We learned lots of stuff at the Melbourne Museum like we did at IMAX. My group’s leader was the best because she showed us the cool stuff first. My most favourite thing was the dinosaur walk because I learned how long dinosaurs lived for. I think dinosaurs are the best prehistoric creature. After that we had to stop the fun and go home. We walked to parliament station. We rode the train to Lynbrook station. My parents came and I went home.JJ
